We are a Google certified partner ensuring that we will always be safe to work with. Visit our site or call us directly! 760-237-8707===================Need More Customers? Increase Your Seo And Watch Them ComeYou're ultimately going to read a lot of SEO details on the web, but remember that not all of it is precise. Some individuals out there actually desire you to stop working since it's better for their websites if you do. Neglect the tripe and the buzz out there. Focus on this post and some fantastic ideas you can use in order to make a greater ranking.A great way to get people interested in your service is through blogging. You can blog about all sorts of things relevant to your business - market news, new promos, up coming new products, etc. You will wish to ensure you keep your blog up to date and to publish new entries on a regular basis to keep people coming back. The simpler your site is to navigate, the easier it will be to build an audience, and therefore the much better your possibilities are of ranking greater in search engine outcomes. Have a tidy, meaningful site, and use basic additions like text links rather than using images or drop-down menus. There are lots of places you can include keywords to optimize a page's online search engine performance: No location is more important than the title of the page. While all keyword mentions are taken into consideration, keywords in the title are heavily weighted. A fast research study journey will show you that couple of pages make it to the top of the search results page without having relevant search terms right in their titles.Utilize the search engines themselves to see how your website is being revealed by them. These engines are your one-stop source to see how your customers are viewing your website prior to they in fact get to it. Have a look at how your site looks, and alter it up as it requires it.URL extensions are like in a different way shaped light bulbs. They all illuminate a room. In other words, using.html,. htm, or.php will not change how a search engine views your website. You can use whichever extension you select. There is no difference, and it has no impact on your rankings.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHLOs...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w1Ug... -

Were Quakers Puritans? - semalt

With all the talk of “witch hunts” lately, we’ve noticed that sometimes people confuse Quakers with the Puritans. Clearly they haven’t heard the story of Mary Dyer.SUPPORT QuakerSpeak on Patreon! http://fdsj.nl/patreon2SUBSCRIBE for a new video every week! http://fdsj.nl/QS-SubscribeWATCH all our videos: http://fdsj.nl/qs-all-videos___Become a Friends Journal subscriber for only $28 http://fdsj.nl/FJ-SubscribeListen to the QuakerSpeak Podcasthttp://fdsj.nl/QS-PodcastLike us on Facebookhttp://facebook.com/QuakerSpeakMusic, Filming and Editing by Jon Wattshttp://www.JonWatts.com___Max Carter: An old professor of mine at Earlham College, Earlham School of Religion, Hugh Barbour, once wrote a book called “The Quakers in Puritan England.” And it places the first Quakers within the context of the Puritan revolution in England in the mid-1600s. Hugh would describe Quakers as “left-wing Puritans.” They out-Puritan-ed the Puritans. Were Quakers Puritans? Now there were several similarities to the Puritans. The Quakers sought to purify the Church, the Church of England at that time. Some within the context of the Church, working from within to purify it. Others leaving the established church because they felt it was a corpse that couldn’t be resuscitated. But there was an attempt at least in the 1640’s, 1650s to purify the Church, to bring it back. To restore original Christianity in the expression of the Church of England.Theological DisagreementsThe Puritans, however (as an official body, capital “P” Puritans), had some beliefs that Quakers disagreed with. These were the major differences between that body of reformers. Primarily, it was that the Puritans believed in predestination, and Quakers believed in the possibility of all people being saved, that there was that “Light” within that when turned-to could lead to salvation, even if one had never heard the name of Jesus, because it was not the name it saved but the power that that name signified, that that name represented, that life and power that John’s gospel says is within each person. So Quakers believed that when a person, whether they were a professing Christian or a Muslim or a Jew or a Native American or you name it, turned to that inward light which was the light and life and power of Christ within, they could overcome their sin and darkness, turn to the light and be made whole, be “saved/” That was a major difference.“Preaching Up Sin”Another major difference that Quakers had with the Puritans was that the Puritans were constantly—as George Fox said—preaching up sin. Constantly referring to humans as “loathsome sinners” as Jonathan Edwards once said, “dangling by a slender thread over the very pits of hell,” and nothing they could do would save them because of their sinful nature in both mind and body. And as George Fox and other Quakers proclaimed, “You keep preaching up sin, you Puritans. You keep emphasizing the sin of Adam.” “In Adam’s fall we sinnèd all,” as the old McGuffey’s Reader used to say. What about the second Adam? What about Christ, the second Adam, who removes our sin, whose life and light and power enables us to overcome sin? Whereas George Fox once proclaimed, “There is that ocean of darkness and death but above it an infinite ocean of light and love.” And we can come through the darkness into that infinite ocean of light and love. And so Quakers emphasized that possibility and continually railed against the Puritans for “preaching up sin” rather than that blessing of the second Adam.Conflict Between Quakers and PuritansThe Quakers were not overly popular with the early Puritans, because there’s no fight like a family fight, and here these Quakers were these “left-wing” Puritans who had these disagreements over the understanding of sin, human nature and the possibility of salvation, opposing predestination and the elect, and were banished from Puritan colonies. In Massachusetts in the 1650s, it was a capital offense to be caught “driving while Quaker” the third time. You come to the colony as a Quaker the first time, you were turned around and sent back at the captain’s expense. Second time, you were whipped, tortured, often women stripped to the waist, tied to the back of ox carts and whipped and tortured. Sometimes, full body cavity searches to see if there was Quaker material they were trying to smuggle into the commonwealth.Third time, you were executed. Not that Quakers bear grudges, but we can still name them. William Leddra, Marmaduke Stephenson, William Robinson, and Mary Dyer. Mary Dyer being hanged in 1660 created such a stir that a woman was being executed that even King Charles II sent a missive back to the commonwealth of Massachusetts saying, “Uh, you can torture them. You can beat them, but just don’t hang them anymore.”More: http://QuakerSpeak.com/were-quakers-p... -

Do Quakers Quake? - semalt

Why are Quakers called Quakers? Do they literally Quake? We asked 15 modern Friends.SUPPORT QuakerSpeak on Patreon! http://fdsj.nl/patreon2SUBSCRIBE for a new video every week! http://fdsj.nl/QS-SubscribeWATCH all our videos: http://fdsj.nl/qs-all-videos___Become a Friends Journal subscriber for only $28 http://fdsj.nl/FJ-SubscribeListen to the QuakerSpeak Podcasthttp://fdsj.nl/QS-PodcastLike us on Facebookhttp://facebook.com/QuakerSpeakMusic, Filming and Editing by Jon Wattshttp://www.JonWatts.com___Gregg Koskela: Do Quakers literally quake? Maybe occasionally, but not as a regular practice. There’s–I think it’s an apocryphal story, I’ve never seen that it’s actually been proven, but the reason that Quakers came to be known as that is in court, where they were being persecuted in England for their faith, when they would be overwhelmed by the spirit of God, they would quake in their proclaiming of the truth—their proclaiming of their innocence. But no, we don’t have regular shaking around here. Not that I’d be opposed to it, necessarily.Do Quakers Quake?Amy Ward Brimmer: This word “Quaker” began as an insult, as far as I understand it, because Friends were just shaking, just so filled with divine light and fervor for the spirit as they spoke publicly that, you know, they were jokingly called, “oh, those Quakers!” And I love that we took this up and said, “Yeah, I’m a Quaker. That’s right. That’s right, I’m filled with the Spirit.”So Do Quakers Actually Quake?A.J. Mendoza: So is the question do I sit around and quake all the time? No. [laughter] Can’t say that I do.Jim Cavener: [laughter] I don’t quake. I think most contemporary Friends are beyond quaking in the name of the lord or whatever it was that the British jurists used as the derogatory term for early Friends—for early seekers after truth.Valerie Brown: Quake? Do Quakers quake? Well, I’m not quite sure about quake. “Be” maybe. Yeah, to be together. There is an abundance of silence here, and a presence of what many people would call a sense of being holy. So if “quaking” is holy, then I guess we quake.Gregg Koskela: I sort of like the idea, the original idea of quaking: that you’re so overwhelmed by the reality of the presence of God that it physically affects you. I’ve experienced that a few time in my life and would love for that to be more so, but it’s not something that I would say is a regular occurrence for us.Tom Hoopes: I don’t usually quake in meeting. But I do know that I have had experiences of such profound transformation that my body feels like it is out of my control, and it feels good. It feels that I am surrendering myself to some power greater than my own. If you want to call that “quaking,” have at it.Monica Walters-Field: You know, I used to say I don’t. Except I can think of about 3 experiences in my life where I actually in public said something, and I realized afterwards that I was on my feet without voluntarily being on my feet. I was on my feet, and my body in fact was representing the intensity of what I felt I had to offer, and, in fact, quaked.Quaking During Vocal MinistryMelody George: I do think that a message kind of burns within you, and that’s what the original Quakers meant when they talked about quaking. So I think that still happens: this sense that I really have a message burning or weighing on me that I need to share with someone else, with this group of people.Chris Mohr: I have had the experience of quaking where I am sitting in a meeting for worship and I feel this urge to share something through words or maybe even a song, but I’m just not sure if I need to do it or not. But that sense of, “No, it’s really urgent—I must do it,” and I start a little bit of shaking and quaking.Ashley Wilcox: The problem for me has always been that I wait too long to speak. And quaking has been a way that I know when I should speak and sometimes a way that I know when I’ve gone too long without speaking. Even if we don’t physically quake—and not all Quakers do, people feel led to speak in different ways—but even if we don’t quake in our bodies, we should always approach giving a message with fear and trembling. Because if we believe that God speaks to and through us, then that is a powerful thing and something that we should not take lightly.Jim Herr: Oftentimes, I feel this physical feeling when I have received a message from my inner being, from God. It doesn’t happen very often. And usually, almost always, when I feel that, it means that it’s time to stand up. It’s time to tell people what you’ve just heard within you.A.J. Mendoza: So, if anything, I feel like the quaking is a tug back and forth between spirit saying “move” and me saying, “Oh God, please let me just sit still.”More: ___The views expressed in this video are of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Friends Journal or its collaborators. -

Quakers and Mental Health - semalt

As a social worker, Melody George feels passionate about what she calls “mental diversity” in faith communities. Curious? http://fdsj.nl/fceMusic, Filming and Editing by Jon Wattshttp://www.JonWatts.com___Transcript:My work really helps me to understand and remember my own humanity and my own struggles and fragility. It just keeps me human and keeps me connected to God by being around these folks who have this really deep, cool expression of faith.Quakers and Mental HealthMy name is Melody George, I live in Portland, Oregon, in the southeast Portland neighborhood. I am a licensed clinical social worker here in Portland, and I work with people with pretty severe mental illnesses who have been institutionalized for decades and who have some pretty sad, hard stories with stigma and with trauma. One of the things that I’m passionate about is mental diversity in faith communities, and those people finding community.Fear and Stigma Around Mental IllnessThere is so much fear and stigma around mental illness and around the expressions of that, I think people kind of get shut out of community because of fear and stigma. I think Quaker communities have a really unique opportunity to invite people in and include people, because we do believe in that of God in everyone, and that God speaks for all of us.Mental Health Diversity as a GiftI really see mental diversity as a gift to a community, and that the folks that I serve and that I’ve worked with are very resilient. If they tell you their stories about how they’ve gotten through their traumatic situations and what’s helped them to keep going, faith is a huge part of that. And we have a lot to learn from their strength and resilience. It’s pretty amazing when a community can open their hearts and their minds to someone’s gifts and to the gift of mental diversity, and I think it’s also good for the individual because they want a place to give back and a place to contribute fully; I think we all want that.Contributing to CommunityA lot of the people I serve, when they try to enter a community, people are afraid, people put up barriers, people put up boundaries and people want to help them by referring them back to the mental health system—which I’m a part of so I’m not against—but I think we can work together, because I feel like there’s more to life than your mental health. A person’s identity is so much more than that and they have a lot to offer and contribute in community. That of God in EveryoneOur testimony to that of God in everyone and to equality is really unique in that we can be a safe place and we can be an affirming place and we can be an inclusive place that welcomes people, really welcomes and values people with different experiences and helps them heal, and they can help us heal. It’s kind of cool that way.___The views expressed in this video are of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Friends Journal or its collaborators. -

(laughs) A spirit that yearns for me to be happy and to be able to connect on deep levels with other people. A spirit that wants me to search and to find, and to act. A spirit that wants me to be responsible and at the same time to be bold and take risks. What Do Quakers Believe?Max Carter: Quakers describe themselves as a non-credal religious body. We don’t have our beliefs set out in formulaic expressions, like the Apostles’ Creed or the Nicene creed. The experience of Friends is that religion and spirituality ought to be a direct, immediate experience of one’s own encounter with God.Patricia McBee: George Fox, the founder of Quakerism, one of the earliest Friends, said that “You can say that Christ sayest this and the scriptures sayest that, but what canst thou say?” What do you know from your own experience?“That of God in Everyone”Jane Fernandes: Quakers see that of God in every person. I think that’s fundamental, and when you see that of God in everyone—that’s everyone—that changes everything.Valerie Brown: The christ consciousness—the belief that each person has within them an energy that is unalterable of goodness—that is available to every single person, no matter your circumstance, no matter what you have done or not done or said or did or had or didn’t have. You don’t have to dress fancy on Sunday; you don’t have to speak a certain way; you don’t have to study a certain kind of text. Who a person is, by their very nature, we have that availability of God.Mark Judkins Helpsmeet: So I would put that right at the core: this universal experience. And, that we’re usually distracted from that experience by something that grabs our attention, and our world is set up to distract us. So I think that at the center of Quaker belief, if you will, is this common-held knowledge, is that the way that you get to what’s real is that you clear off the distractions.Waiting WorshipLloyd Lee Wilson: For many folks coming into Quaker meeting for worship who aren’t already familiar with it, there aren’t many cues to indicate what’s going on, and it sometimes seems like we’re having worship based on silence but in fact something very different is going on. Sometimes this is called “expectant waiting;” in my yearly meeting, it’s more often called “waiting worship.”Greg Williams: The uniqueness is that you’re sitting, waiting to be touched and to be moved. God is there, and God may not come to you in the way that you expect. If you’re centered, you can have a sense of that presence that’s within you.Laura Goren: Through quieting ourselves, quieting our ego, quitting our racing mind, we can access that truth for ourselves and together as a community, that truth of where we are being led together. And that’s a mystical thing, I can’t explain that logically.Kevin-Douglas Olive: When we come together in that reality, and we seek to be humble in that reality, we find ourselves connected in an intimate way. Sitting in silence with a group of people Sunday after Sunday, that’s as intimate as I can think of within a community like that.We Are All MinistersIngrid Lakey: As a Quaker, I believe that we all have access to the divine, that spirit is available to us, there is God in everyone—including me—and that we don’t need an intermediary to be in contact with the divine. The divine is always with us.Margaret Webb: Quakers believe that each person has a ministry, has a call, has something that the spirit is calling them to do, and because of that we believe that each of us has gifts, and that we each have a role in our meeting community. So we each minister to each other, within a Quaker community.Deborah Suess: We believe that Christ is present, that Christ will speak directly to us, that you sure don’t need a pastor to do it for you.More: https://fdsj.nl/belief ___The views expressed in this video are of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Friends Journal or its collaborators. -

Are Quakers Amish? - semalt

This week's Quaker video: "You're a Quaker? You mean, like, Amish?" It's something all Quakers have heard. Find Quakers near you on QuakerFinder and Friends Journal's meeting listingshttp://www.fgcquaker.org/connect/quak...http://www.friendsjournal.org/meeting...Transcript:Are Quakers Amish? That's a question that almost everyone who goes to Guilford College (where we're filming this today) gets. A number of my students will say when they find out they're going to a Quaker College, "Will we have to ride a horse? Will we have to give up electricity? Will we have to wear gray?"What I often tell my students is the main difference between the Quakers and the Amish is that the Amish drive their own buggy; Quakers drive others buggy. Are Quakers Amish? The real answer is that there's a spiritual connection between the Quakers and the Amish. There's no organic connection between the Quakers and the Amish. The Amish grew out of the radical reformation, the anabaptist movements of the 1500's and 1600's, out of southern Germany, the Alsace area of France and Switzerland in response to the protestant reformation, and a desire to take those reforms further, to create the "true church" of adult, voluntary believers who accept the discipline of the church and associated themselves around the gospels especially and lived out the meaning of the gospels in plainness, in simplicity, in adult baptism, and pacifism, or what they would call "biblical nonresistance."The Quakers emerged out of the English Civil War period a century later. Similar desires to restore original Christianity—it was a restorationist movement too—but there's no organic connection with what was happening on the continent. How Quaker Used to DressThe reason so many people make the mistake of equating the Quakers with the Amish is the Amish dress the way that Quakers used to. The Amish came into the American colonies in the early 1700's on the invitation of William Penn and other Quakers to Pennsylvania for religious freedom. They came as German Peasant stock, dressing like German Bauern would dress, and they looked at their Quaker neighbors and saw them dressing in their broad brim hats and bonnets and plain clothes and said, "works for us."The Differences Between Quakers and AmishBut there are very significant differences between the Amish and the Quakers. The Amish, for example, believe in separation from a fallen world. A fundamental theological understanding is to be separate. "Come out from among them and be ye separate."Quakers have followed William Penn's dictate of "loving the world with weaned affections," to be "in the world but not of it," so Quakers have not been as separate from the world. The Amish have a theology that is still fairly Calvinist without the pre-destination. Quakers have a theology that is more open to the possibility of understanding one's salvation in this life. The Amish will not talk about eternal assurance or the ability to know in this life whether one is in reconciliation with God.And quite importantly, the Amish do not allow women to speak or have authority in church. Quakers from the very beginning have always seen the spiritual equality of men and women. So if you go to an Amish worship service, which is 3 and a half hours in German, women will not speak a word, unless they're singing a hymn. There are no women in authority, no women in leadership, and that just isn't the case among Quakers. There are also a variety of differences in terms of form. Quakers do not use the outward forms of baptism and communion typically, and those are very central to Anabaptist and Amish understanding. The importance of baptism as a sign of entering into the church as an adult, and the importance twice a year of the Lord's supper, foot washing as well. -

Quakers and Women in Ministry - semalt

The Quaker testimony on equality began in worship, and it began with the experience that women were called by the Spirit of God to speak in the ministry.Friends Carole Spencer, Ashley Wilcox, Marcelle Martin and Michael Birkel share their experience.http://quakerspeak.com/subscribeDirected by Jon Wattshttp://www.jonwatts.comDiscussion Questions:http://www.quakerspeak.com/quakers-wo...Read Marcelle Martin's Friends Journal article "Inspiration from Quaker Women of the Past":http://www.friendsjournal.org/3011112/Find a Quaker Meeting Near You:http://www.friendsjournal.org/meeting...http://www.fgcquaker.org/connect/quak...TranscriptCarole SpencerQuaker women have a voice. They have a history, they have a voice, they have the support of all of Quaker tradition in promoting the equality of women and promoting the ministry of women.Women in MinistryAshley WilcoxIf we look at Jesus's message, he spoke to women. He had women speaking on his behalf. That is a very ancient Christian tradition. I think Quakerism has shown that God is calling women to ministry—vocal ministry and public ministry—in ways that are Spirit-filled, and this has been happening for centuries.Marcelle MartinIn my life, I began to have really powerful spiritual experiences and I wanted to understand them better, and so I looked in the Bible and I looked in history books to find out about other people who'd had similar experiences, and most of the accounts that I found were of men.Carole SpencerI think that the Quaker message—particularly to the wider church (if you think about the whole Catholic church, they still don't ordain women)—I think Quakers do have a larger role to play if they want to be a movement within the broader Christian movement.EqualityMichael BirkelThe Quaker testimony on equality began in worship, and it began with the experience that women were called by the Spirit of God to speak in the ministry.Marcelle MartinIn the middle of the 17th century—1650s—there was a whole community of people who understood that women were the spiritual equals of men and they could be equally empowered by the Spirit to give a prophetic message and to be ministers as men were.Carole SpencerIt was a lay movement. It was a movement where both men and women, young and old, rich and poor—all, if they were led by the spirit, filled with the spirit, they could be preachers.Marcelle MartinIt was not just a singular woman here, and it wasn't just a woman who was sent into a convent. It was a whole community of women living in the world who were understood to be empowered by God with a message.Carole SpencerThey loved to quote that verse in Acts that says that both your men and your women shall prophesy. Everyone will prophesy with the spirit. They loved to quote that. They were bringing in this new movement, this kingdom of God that was going to change things and women were a part of it.Women's Liberation MovementMichael BirkelSome people feel that this was perhaps the most threatening of early Quaker ideas to their contemporaries and the one that got Quakers most in trouble because once you open the door to women's equality before the spirit of God in worship it opens other doors to women's equality in other dimensions of life.Carole SpencerThe early Quaker women had their own business meetings, separate meetings. It sounds kind of sexist, but actually it was really good for women because they could do their own thing and they could learn how to be leaders and how to organize and how to run committees and how to run meetings. So by the 19th century when there actually was a women's movement of political change—Quakers didn't change the political structure, but when there actually was this movement towards reform and women's suffrage—Quakers were the backbone of that movement because they knew how to organize and lead and get things done.So Quakerism opened a huge door for women and we can be really thankful that the male Quakers actually defended women's doing of this. They actually defend them publicly in their speaking and in their writings.Ministry TodayAshley WilcoxI feel like part of my ministry has been embodied as a young woman and I give messages about that sometimes—about how difficult it has been for me to see my body as a whole because in our culture women's bodies are dissected and you only see little bits of it and so to see my body and spirit as one piece is a big deal for me and I think for a lot of women.More at:http://quakerspeak.com/quakers-women-... -

How Quakers Got Their Name - semalt

Why Quakers are called Quakers: the name “Quaker” was originally intended as an insult, until the Religious Society of Friends took it on and claimed it for themselves.Quaker Speak is a weekly video series. Subscribe: http://QuakerSpeak.com/subscribe___________________________________________Go Deeper with Friends Journal:http://FriendsJournal.orgLobby with Quakers on Capitol Hill:http://www.fcnl.orgWork for peace with justice with AFSC:http://www.afsc.org/friendsDirected by Jon Wattshttp://www.JonWatts.com___________________________________________Transcript:It’s not unlike how people will take a pejorative term and own it, take pride in it. Methodists, Mormons, there are other words that ethnic groups will use that were initially used as pejorative terms and they claimed them with pride. How Did Quakers Get Their Name?Initially, it was a pejorative term. Friends (Quakers) initially called themselves Publishers of Truth, Friends of Jesus, Primitive Christianity Restored or Revived. They simply saw themselves as a movement restoring original Christianity.Early on, there were those who accused Quakers of being enthusiasts, of outrunning their guide. One of the first instances of that was in Fox’s first imprisonment when he was thrown into prison by a judge up in Darby, England. The judge bade Fox to tremble and quake at the authority of the court, and Fox replied, “No, it is thou, judge, who ought tremble and quake before the authority almighty God.” And the judge said, “What are you some sort of QUAKER??” (enthusiast, what we today might call some “wild eyed Pentecostal”) and the name stuck as a pejorative term. It was not meant to be taken in good light by others.Named It and Claimed ItQuakers (Friends) took it on themselves. They named it and claimed it; said, “yeah we’re Quakers! We’re moved by the Spirit.” In their meetings for worship they would tremble and quake and shake. They would often cite scriptural evidence for that. How when the reach of Elohim, or the spirit of God descended on the prophets or others in the days of old in the Hebrew scriptures or the Christian scriptures, they would tremble and shake. They would often use that as proof texts, “We are Quakers.”So Quakers claimed it and eventually when they eventually became known as the religious society of Friends, they would also add on “Also known as Quakers” or “(Quakers)”___________________________________________The views expressed in this video are of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Friends Journal or its collaborators. -

Why Are Quakers Pacifists? - YouTube - semalt

Swarthmore College professor George Lakey in this week's Quaker Speak on why Quakers are nonviolent, pacifism and nonviolence (also known as nonviolent action). We talked with George Lakey about Quakers' call to struggle, the myth that violence works, and how that's all changing.http://quakerspeak.com/subscribeDirected by Jon Wattshttp://www.jonwatts.comDiscussion Questions:http://www.quakerspeak.com/the-end-of...George Lakey's article "On the Value of Conflict," from Friends Journal:http://www.friendsjournal.org/2010089/A Review of "Why Civil Resistance Works":http://www.friendsjournal.org/review-...Find a Quaker Meeting Near You:http://www.friendsjournal.org/meeting...http://www.fgcquaker.org/connect/quak...Opportunities for personal transformation through community and service work:http://www.quakervoluntaryservice.org/Fox said that we do not war with outward weapons. Our understanding of Jesus is he will not ask us to do outward weapons. We don't understand a holy Spirit that one minute says "be peaceful" and the next minute, "Go out and kill a lot of people." We don't understand that kind of Spirit. The Spirit we experience is one that is consistent and wants us to not war with outward weapons.I'm George Lakey, Philadelphia Quaker. We're going through a paradigm change right now. It's something that I didn't know if I would ever live to see because the paradigm that says, "when push comes to shove, you have to use violence," is so tough and it's been around for tens of thousands of years. It seems as obvious as the paradigm once was that the Earth was flat. Everybody knows the Earth is flat, right? Well, not any longer. But that's how toughly in-built the paradigm is that violence is what needs to be used when we're going to really exert power and do humanitarian interventions or anything we want to do. "When it's tough we have to use violence." But that's shifting now.Quakers understood it 350 years ago because it was what they felt naturally you do when the spirit is in you saying, "love people and do what's right. Set up the conditions under which it is easier to do right and stop oppressing each other." The practical dimension of Quakers was expressed through nonviolent struggle.Struggle, mind you. Not everyone responds in that way. Some people say "spirituality means I should avoid struggle." But for Early Quakers, the Spirit wanted us to go out and do struggle. And so Quakers would pick fights. Quakers would go into churches for example, and after a preacher had preached something that they felt like was really wrong, they would stand up and contradict the preacher even though that meant that it was pretty likely that they would be grabbed by the parishioners nearby and dragged out of the church and beaten up just outside the church. But they would do that, that's an example of nonviolent struggle. It's because, "yes we make war with inward weapons", and they even called themselves people who were struggling for the Lamb's war. They were fighting the Lamb's war. So this was a warrior outfit, these 17th century Quakers, who were fighting with nonviolent means. There's a new scholarly book ["Why Civil Resistance Works" by Erica Chenoweth and Maria J. Stephan] that the hardboiled political scientists who wrote it are getting enormous credit for. It describes in ways that political scientists and hardboiled realists, governance people, are taking deeply seriously because the book describes over 300 struggles in which regime change has been the issue: overthrowing governments or getting out from under an empire or stopping an occupation -- big stuff. In this book, they prove that the movements that chose nonviolent means were twice as effective as the movements that chose violent means. To anyone who is pragmatic of mind, this is news. This is extremely important. So it's not only seeing the Egyptians overthrow Mubarak, or seeing the Tunisians overthrow their dictator or the other kinds of recent experiences that we've seen, but it's also the scholarship—which is important in terms of idea formation—is beginning to catch up with this idea of nonviolent struggle. It's just believing that the Earth was flat. You can't really hold it against people for believing that the Earth was flat. At a certain time in history, everybody knows that the Earth was flat. And at this time in history, most people just know that violence is the only way to do things when it's tough. However, the excitement for me is there have been sufficient breakthroughs so that now an opening may exist. And maybe some adventurous person watching this will decide to open themselves to new possibilities.quaker, quakers, silence, religious society of friends, friends journal, jon watts, quaker worship, why quakers worship in silence, quakerspeak, george lakey, pacifist, pacifism, nonviolence, nonviolent protest -

MendozaMy first couple times in trying to center down to unprogrammed worship was a struggle. Not being raised in it at all, being raised in the Pentecostal tradition, I came into this like, "Well, I'm supposed to be listening to the light... hmmm! And this isn't working!"What Do Quakers Mean By the Inner Light?Marcelle MartinWell, the Inner Light is also called by many different names by Quakers: the Inward Light, the Light of Christ, that of God within.Michael BirkelEarly Friends got the expression from the first chapter of the gospel of John, where we find in verse 9 the phrase, "the true light, which enlightens everyone coming into the world."Max CarterEarly Friends understood that to be the Light of Jesus Christ. It was not a metaphor, but it was the real presence of Christ within.Marcelle MartinIt was also called "the seed" because it represented something very small of God planted inside. The phrase "the seed" suggests that that small thing might not grow if you block it up, if you ignore it, if you have all these distractions.Naomi MadarasSo it's very much an energetic, alive thing. It's not just this sort of light switch that flips on or off depending on whether you see it. It's this force and a Spirit that we all get to share and get to experience together, hopefully, if we're aware that it's there. So it's a process of being observant. The Light That Guides UsKeenan Lorenzato I guess the way for me to speak about the Light that guides us is to think about what happens when we don't have light to guide us. So we're fumbling around in the dark, we're humans, we don't have night vision. We can't see where we're going.Noah Baker MerrillOne of the quotations that has always spoken to me is the instructions of an early Quaker named James Naylor who talks about those times in our lives where we feel surrounded by confusion and darkness, by a spiritual sense of being lost or being in danger. And he says, "Art thou in the darkness? Well mind it not, for if you mind it, it will feed thee more. [It will grow in you.] But stand still and act not and wait in patience until Light arises out of darkness to lead thee."And that has been my experience. That there is a power and a life that rises in those places of darkness in our lives if we can wait and open to it.The Light That IlluminatesMichael BirkelAnd so the Light is that presence of God that illuminates for us. It might show us a way forward. It might embrace us and welcome us into the inward life.Marcelle MartinIt's experienced as an inward kind of illumination that shows you things. It shows you—oftentimes first of all—what is not of the Light or what is blocking the Light.More: http://quakerspeak.com/quakers-the-light -

It could mean being what was called in the 17th century a “public Friends,” one who was led to preach, to public ministry, to declare the word of the lord anywhere they could find an audience.Quakers as “Publishers of Truth”I’m am Tom Hamm. I am a resident of Richmond, Indiana, a member of West Richmond Friends Meeting in the New Association of Friends and I am professor of history and director of special collections at Earlham College.Early Friends in PrintThe Quaker movement arose in the 1640s and the 1650s when controls on the press in England had been abolished so it was fairly easy to get into print. Many different religious groups, many religious leaders and would-be leaders took advantage of that situation to publish the truth as they perceived it, and so you had hundreds, thousands of pamphlets appearing every year. Friends knew that they were competing with other religious groups for attention and in order to compete effectively in that religious marketplace, they knew they had to get into print. And so they did, turning our dozens of pamphlets and books every year beginning in 1653.Collecting Early Quaker WritingsWe are fortunate that one of the rules that early Friends set for themselves was that they would collect two copies of every Quaker publication that was issued and one copy of every anti-Quaker publication that was issued and bring them together in London. That of course was the basis for the world’s largest collection of Quaker literature that you would find at the Friends Library in London now.Friends and the Changing Media LandscapeThose two forms of publishing truth—through the vocal word and through the printed or written word—have continued to be true of Friends right down to the present day. What we’ve seen of course in the last twenty years or so is a revolution in how publication takes place. I think that the line between the vocal word and the written word is becoming increasingly mushy almost every day. But certainly I think that with the advent of the internet and the World Wide Web we’ve seen the greatest revolution in the Quaker publication of truth in 350 years.Certainly there are traditionalist technophobes like myself who are always going to prefer to have things on paper but we have to accept that if Friends are to remain a presence publishing truth in the world, that’s going to have to be done digitally as well.___The views expressed in this video are of the speakers and do not necessarily reflect the views of Friends Journal or its collaborators. -

User-Friendly WebsitesSEO will help small business owners create a faster, smoother, and user-friendlier website. Although most people still hang on to the old definition of SEO, thinking that it is only about optimising for the search engines, however, today SEO is also about improving user experience too.Well-structured, clean, and uncluttered websites compels a casual visitor to stay longer, thereby decreasing bounce rate and increasing page views. Similarly, highly relevant content (sales pages and blog articles) keeps you readers happy as they are more likely to solves answer their questions, solve their pressing issues and helps them find exactly what they’re looking for on your site.On-page SEO, if done properly, makes your users happy, which makes search engines happy too as they love to serve high quality information to their users.2. Bring in MORE CustomersLet’s face it, one of the main reasons for having a website is to stand out from your competition and increase your customer base. Otherwise, why invest 1,000s of pounds (£) on marketing, right? Businesses that have a SEO optimised website bring MORE customers and grow as twice as fast than businesses who do not have one.SEO is probably the most efficient and affordable marketing strategy that exists today. Moreover, it will only bring in customers who are actively seeking to find your product or service! If you’re willing to spend few hours of time, energy, and small amount of money, SEO will help brings “targeted” traffic to your website, and eventually more customers to your business than any other marketing tactics you’ll ever use.3. Better Conversion RatesSEO-optimised websites loads faster, are easy to read and surf, and will display properly in almost all types of devices, including mobile and tablets. Websites that are easy to read and navigate are more likely to grab and hold attention from your readers or visitors – i.e. they’re more likely to become your loyal customers, subscribers, and returning visitors.4. Build Brand AwarenessOne of the benefits of getting higher rankings on the SERPs is building brand awareness. When your sites appear on the first page of major search engines such as Google, Yahoo, and Bing, your potential customers are more likely to trust your brand when they search for a particular term rather than other brands that don’t have a strong web presence. That is why small businesses that want to build better brand awareness (either locally or expanding nationally) must invest in SEO and start gaining top rankings for the KEY terms related with their business. We’re not in the 90s anymore; search engines now play a significant role in making or breaking your brand.5. Bypass CompetitionLet’s take an example of two businesses that are in the same industry, selling similar products, at similar prices. One of them has an optimised website while the other has a non-optimised website. Considering everything is else is equal, which company do you think will attract more customers to their website from local searches? Which company will likely grow faster and become more successful?Search engines and SEO are very powerful. If your competitors are doing SEO marketing, simply you must ask yourself why you haven’t invested in such a strategy yet too.https://www.improvemysearchranking.comLearn more about SEO:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Search_...http://thehoth.netWeather In Kenthttp://www.kentonline.co.uk/news/weat...SEO Guide for 2018 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P1-3V...SEO the Movie - Officialhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RtFlA...SEO Crash Coursehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e_JKC...More Areas we coverhttps://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list...https://kentseo.agencyThanks for viewing are channel please like on your way out! -
